Sports-Guards

These custom made mouthpieces are constructed in varying thickness depending on the sport they are going to be used during.  Since they are custom made, they dramatically reduce injuries & also allow more understandable speaking while being worn.  You might be surprised how greatly these can reduce oral traumas.

Various colors & combinations are available.

 

Bite-Guards

 Generically called "biteguards" or "nightguards", these custom made mouthpieces are constructed of clear acrylic to snap onto the upper teeth (or sometimes lower).   There function is to prevent damage from grinding and clenching on your natural teeth.  They also allow the jaw muscles to relax and one to wake up in the morning with a less stressed TMJ (jaw joint).  The hard nature of this acrylic requires precise customization and adjustment by your dentist. Soft guards (often store-bought) lack that customization and can sometimes lead to further TMJ problems.

Typically, these are indicated for TMJ problems, grinding, or clenching habits diagnosed by a dentist.

 

Snore-Guards

These custom made trays cover part of the upper and lower teeth. Depending on the system, the upper and lower tray are connected in some fashion in an attempt at repositioning the jaw to open the airway.

A 1998 study by UCLA linked sleep apnea to calcium & cholesterol buildup on the coronary arteries, thus increasing the likelihood of stroke.

 

All of the above explanations are elementary  These devices require proper diagnosis before determining whether it could benefit a patient.
